Photographed in Columbus, MS, this series explores the physical remnants of my grandfather’s childhood home in rural Mississippi. The original home has been in the family since the early 1900s, when my great grandmother’s father purchased the land and the built the home after being freed from slavery.

The homes have long sat abandoned and unoccupied and serve as reminders of love lost, as well as a reminder of generational trauma and the perils of black home ownership and the transfer of generational wealth in rural black communities with minimal capital investment.
