Let the Land &

Light Carry You

This series serves as an intimate documentation of everyday moments and scenes of my upbringing in Maryland. Often rooted in cultural and social isolation, as one of the few blacks in a suburban/rural community, I have grown fond of the delicate balance between suburban and rural landscapes that served as both a place of safety and isolation.

The images looks deeply at strength of light and shadows in both domestic and natural spaces, and the ways in which it informs how a space is perceived and navigated (and by whom).

The same roads I used to hate, now fill me with peace like no other space. But what does that mean when these spaces still hold few faces that look like mine? Perhaps there is no one answer, but still, I let the land and light carry me.
