Explore the practices of three artists featured in A Movement in Every Direction: Legacies of the Great Migration in this conversation with Akea Brionne, Leslie Hewitt, Robert Pruitt, and exhibition curator Kimberli Gant. Akea Brionne is an interdisciplinary researcher and artist who explores postcolonial Creole identity through photography and textile-based work. Hewitt revisits the still-life genre through minimalist assemblages of ordinary materials, which suggest the porosity between personal and sociopolitical histories. Pruitt often weaves spirituality and symbolism into large-scale figurative portraits to evoke a diverse and radical Black past, present, and future. Using the Great Migration as their starting point, Akea Brionne, Hewitt, and Pruitt created new works for the exhibition that consider the profound impact of this movement of millions of Black Americans across the South and the country. 

Masks are required in the Auditorium and will be available upon arrival.
